From patient to DT: Bibiana’s journey inspires at the 2026 Discovery Gala

Our 2026 Discovery Gala was an incredible success—raising more than $1 million (and counting!) in support of Northwest Kidney Centers patients. Your generosity helps us continue providing essential programs our patients rely on.

At the event, we shared a video featuring former patient and now NKC dialysis technician Bibiana Garcia, who reflects on her dialysis journey and how the care she received inspired her to give back by becoming a DT.

Bibiana’s story started when she first went to her doctor to discuss her frequent headaches. In the next few months, after lab work, a CT scan, emergency blood transfusions and a lot of stress, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Bibiana went through dialysis at our Bellevue clinic all while still working and being a mom. Eventually she got the call and received a transplant.

“My first two hours of dialysis were like an injection of life,” Bibiana said. “The difference at Northwest Kidney Centers was how the nurses and technicians cared for me and all their patients.”

After a successful transplant, Bibiana was inspired to give back.

“When I was having dialysis, I saw the technicians doing such an amazing job,” Bibiana said. “I wanted to be on the other side doing the same thing.”

And now Bibiana is that support for others; she works at our Lake City clinic.

“I tell them, ‘You’ll be okay-I know because I’ve had this same treatment’ and their mood totally changes,” she shared. “It’s a huge relief for them. This is my way to give back.”
