Quality care that feels different – because it is.
As the first out-of-hospital dialysis clinic in the world, Northwest Kidney Centers wrote the book on quality patient care. In the more than 60 years since, we’ve continued to lead the way, prioritizing safety, better outcomes, and meaningful patient relationships. Our teams focus on what matters most: patients’ comfort, health, and goals.
Why choose Northwest Kidney Centers
People come to Northwest Kidney Centers for expert dialysis care and stay because they feel supported. That support shows up in the personalized care we provide each patient, and the outcomes we deliver. For example:
- As a nonprofit dialysis provider, we can focus on doing what’s best for our patients – not shareholders. Our patients have 30% fewer hospital admissions than the national average. That means safer care and better outcomes. We listen closely, respond quickly, and adjust care to meet each person’s needs. Our referring physicians can see the difference. That’s why, in our most recent annual survey, 97% of referring physicians said we consistently deliver high-quality care.

- We know that home dialysis gives people the freedom to keep doing the things they love while managing their health. That’s why we offer free classes for kidney disease patients to better understand all their treatment options and encourage all eligible patients to consider this modality. Nearly 20% of our patients choose to dialyze at home – one of the highest rates in the country.
- For those pursuing a life-saving kidney transplant, we offer guidance and support at every step. Each patient’s clinical care team works in concert to help the patient overcome barriers that could keep them from the transplant list. That ongoing support is one reason why Northwest Kidney Centers patients receive transplants at a rate higher than the rest of the nation. In 2025 alone, 104 of our patients received a new kidney.
Research + education
We know better outcomes start with better information. That’s why we invest in patient education and
partner with researchers. In 2025, 550 of our patients took part in studies with the Kidney Research Institute, helping to test new ways to manage blood pressure, control blood sugar, and improve communication with doctors. We provide space for clinical investigators within our facilities, meaning patients can participate in clinical trials without leaving their regular clinic.
We also offer free “Choices” classes for people with serious kidney disease and their families. These sessions help people understand their options and plan ahead. In the last year, 851 individuals attended. Thanks to our CKD education, patients are more likely to begin dialysis with a permanent access in place, choose home dialysis, and avoid starting treatment in the hospital – all of which will give them the greatest chance of success.
High-quality, patient-centered care

Our teams care for the whole person – not just their condition. At Northwest Kidney Centers, we use Kristin Swanson’s “Theory of Caring” to guide our work. This approach focuses on building relationships, listening with empathy, and honoring what each patient needs to feel safe and supported. Our interdisciplinary care teams include nephrologists, nurses, dietitians, and social workers who work together to meet patients’ goals. We also partner closely with referring doctors to ensure care is consistent and coordinated.
We’re proud of our award-winning , many of whom have been with us for years; our clinical teams have an average of years of experience, and our clinical leaders have an average tenure of just under a decade. That means patients are more likely to see familiar faces who understand their needs and preferences.
Our teams build strong relationships with patients by regularly gathering their feedback to identify and address any issues and to improve overall patient experience.
