In Memory of Luella J. Petrie

1934 - 2016

Luella (Lu) Petrie

Lue (Dokken) Petrie, 81, passed away peacefully the morning of February 6, 2016, just two weeks shy of her 61st wedding anniversary to Robert Petrie. She was born on November 12, 1934 in Adams County, North Dakota. Moving to Lemmon, South Dakota, she graduated from Lemmon High School, class of ’51. She then moved to Seattle where she met her future husband, Bob, whom she married February 19, 1955.

Lue and Bob owned several boats over a 42-year span. Lue enjoyed fishing and boating in Puget Sound & British Columbia and have been members of Edmonds Yacht Club for 29 years. She started work in Seattle as a Boeing executive secretary and left work to raise her three boys, Mark, Gregg and Bruce. When her boys were teenagers, she went back to work as a church secretary at Saint Matthews Lutheran Church for about 25 years. She loved interacting with the congregation and helping those in need who came to the church.

Failing kidneys forced her retirement. She was on dialysis for two years at Northwest Kidney Centers and was grateful for the care she received. While on dialysis, Lue met her “angel” on a friend’s boat, and when she heard Lue was in need of a kidney transplant, Barbara Rousey spoke up with “Maybe I can help,” which led to Barbara donating Lue a kidney, extending Lue’s life for 14 more wonderful years.

Lue is survived by her husband, Bob, three sons, Mark, Gregg, and Bruce, along with their wives, Sarah, Judy, and Christina, and nine grandchildren, Anna, Erika, Brett, Steven, Michael, and Christina, twins John & Kyle, and Erik.
