Delivering results for our patients, our people and our community

Northwest Kidney Centers has had the privilege of serving as a steady and trusted resource for our community for more than 60 years. Even in times of great uncertainty, our patients and their families know we will be there for them for every step of their journey.

That showed up as our teams supporting more than 100 patients navigating the kidney transplant process and using our voice to stand up for kidney patients from Olympia to Washington, D.C., to protect vital programs including the Kidney Disease Program and Medicaid.

Our patients rated their care with the highest satisfaction scores we have seen, and 97% of physicians affirmed the quality of our services. These results reflect the extraordinary dedication of our staff, who show up each day to ensure patients can truly live their best lives.

At the same time, we are investing in the future. Our new Dialysis Technician-to-RN training program is opening doors for staff to grow their careers while strengthening the workforce we all rely on. And we are advancing our long-term sustainability through careful planning and strategic growth, ensuring that we can serve patients for generations to come.

Thank you for walking with us – as partners, patients, staff, and supporters. Together, we are creating a healthier, more hopeful tomorrow.

Rebecca Fox

President and CEO

Why Northwest Kidney Centers matters to me

The staff at Northwest Kidney Centers have been everything for me. Amy is the pilot to my plane.”

– Adrian Allen, former in-center dialysis patient and transplant recipient, with social worker Amy Postel

What we are grateful for

Empowering patients to take control of their diet

We launched our new Medical Nutrition Therapy program, giving patients more support to manage chronic kidney disease and live healthier lives. In one-on-one sessions with our registered dietitians, patients receive personalized guidance that fits their culture, lifestyle, and health needs. This care not only helps slow the progression of kidney disease but also supports better management of related conditions like diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. By focusing on nutrition and long-term wellness, the program is already helping patients feel more in control of their health and quality of life.

Growing care where it’s needed most

On Sept. 25, 2024, we opened our newest flagship clinic in Yesler Terrace. This 68,300-square-foot space represents a new chapter in our mission to expand access to life-saving kidney care, particularly in a historically underserved neighborhood.

With 46 dialysis stations, nine home dialysis training rooms, and a community-education space, we are able to reach more patients, strengthen our home program, and build deeper connections with the communities we serve, helping ensure that high-quality, patient-centered kidney care is available to all who need it.

Caring clinical leaders

We’re grateful for our dedicated staff who go the extra mile every day to build strong, caring relationships with patients – staff like Lake City Kidney Center Nurse Manager Tara Scott. She was recognized with the Network 16 Innovation Award for her commitment to innovation and patient-centered care. Through chairside “What Matters to You?” conversations, she guides patients through their goals and helps them understand how their choices impact outcomes, empowering them to take ownership of their health.

Advocating for our patients and communities

Together, a delegation of more than 30 Northwest Kidney Centers leaders, staff, patients and volunteers spoke with Washington State legislators to highlight the critical needs of people living with kidney disease, from protecting Medicaid funding and the Kidney Disease Program to preserving the Certificate of Need process. Our conversations underscored the urgency of these issues and brought the realities of kidney disease to the forefront.

Helping staff grow their careers

We’re finding innovative ways to support our staff as they grow their careers. Our new Dialysis Technician to Registered Nurse (DT to RN) program—the first in Northwest Kidney Centers’ history— launched in early 2025. The program creates a career development pathway for DTs with foreign nursing credentials, helping them become licensed to practice in the United States. Each participant receives financial and educational support to prepare for the nurse licensing exam and English proficiency exams. This initiative empowers staff to advance their careers while building a strong pipeline of future nurses.

Strengthening our roots in the community

True to our roots, we continue to serve the community – teaming up with groups like the Pacific Islander Community Association of WA and Kin On to raise awareness about kidney disease and support early screening and education, especially in communities disproportionately affected by chronic kidney disease. We also participated in dozens of local events and partnered with organizations like the Rainier Beach Action Coalition, volunteering to care for greenspaces and connect with the neighborhoods where our clinics are located. These efforts help us meet people where they are and offer support before kidney disease becomes more serious.

Why Northwest Kidney Centers matters to me

My nurse Lara took the extra steps to come to my house to make sure I was set up properly for home dialysis and she’s always a phone call away.

Improving outcomes for everyone

Kidney disease continues to disproportionately impact communities that have long faced systemic barriers to care – including Black, Native and Indigenous, Asian American, Latine, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations. Many people with kidney disease also face other health problems and financial challenges, which can make accessing care even harder. In response, we developed a framework to guide our efforts in delivering care that prioritizes actions to reduce disparities and improves outcomes for those we serve.

Why Northwest Kidney Centers matters to me

“Greg and the dietitian team are easy to talk to and truly care about me and their patients. I probably wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him.

– MNT patient Clarence Thomas

Why I give

Jen Keller

As a living organ donor, I’ve seen firsthand the life-changing impact of kidney disease and what it means to people to have access to quality care and hope. Northwest Kidney Centers is a people-first organization, delivering exceptional care to all patients, including those who may not otherwise be able to afford it. I believe deeply in their mission and values, and because of that, it’s an honor to give back and help raise awareness for such an important cause and organization.
