In Memory of Matthew M. Seto

Devoted, loving father, brother, friend, neighbor, World War II Veteran, business executive and volunteer, Matthew Seto passed away peacefully on March 18, 2014 at age 93. Born in Tacoma, Washington on January 11, 1921 to Toraichi and Kiyo Seto, Matt graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and attended the University of Puget Sound prior to being drafted during World War II.

Matt served his country with distinction as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence Corps. He received the Congressional Gold Medal and his unit received the Presidential Citation for their work. Upon returning home, Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in Accounting and Foreign Trade from the University of Washington. Matt had a long successful career in accounting, finishing his career with Fenpro, Inc. (Fentron Highway Products) and serving as an officer in the Administrative Management Society and the National Society of Accountants.

Matt Seto’s family was the highlight of his life. He was dedicated to his wife, Kay and son, Doug, providing a wonderful life for his family through his intelligence, wisdom, and astute judgment. Matt and Kay enjoyed traveling around the world, salmon fishing, rock hounding, hunting for sapphires in Montana, hunting for Japanese mushrooms, and supporting their son in his activities, including Boy Scouts. To honor his late wife, and in gratitude for the care provided during the five years she received dialysis treatments, Matt worked with Northwest Kidney Centers to establish the Kiyoko A. Seto Research Endowment.

Matt is survived by his son, Doug, Bellevue, brother Joe (Grace), Los Angeles, brother Tom (Judy), New York, sister Grace (Richard), Honolulu and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Hugh and Dave. The family appreciates the excellent care provided by Skyline at First Hill and The Polyclinic.
