Fruits and Vegetables

One of the best ways to lose weight may be to eat more fiber. You should eat some fruits and vegetables to help you feel nice and full after you eat. Even though you need to watch your potassium, you can eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.

Most people on dialysis can eat 4 to 6 half-cup servings of fruit and vegetables every day. You might pick 2 to 3 servings of fruit and 2 to 3 servings of vegetables. Ask your nutritionist for a list of the potassium content in different fruits and vegetables.

Which low-calorie ideas sound good? Choose those you will try:

  • Choose fresh fruits and vegetables instead of juices. They're more filling so you don't feel like you need to eat more. They have more roughage, which also helps prevent constipation.
  • Use unsweetened canned fruit packed in juice instead of syrup.
  • Use unsweetened juices that have fewer calories.
