Increase Your Activities

"I can't do exercises like aerobics!" you may be saying. Well, you aren't expected to increase your physical activity overnight. It takes time to build up your energy and strength. You can start out by adding some housework chores, walking, or doing just a few minutes of exercise.

Decide whether you want to increase your activity every day or every other day. You may want to enjoy a walk on the days that you don't have dialysis treatments. Start with a few minutes every other day. As your stamina builds up you can do exercises or other activities for a longer time every day.

Soon you will find that you can exercise a few minutes without getting worn out. Then build up to 5 and 10 minutes. By adding 5 to 10 minutes each week, some dialysis patients have worked up to 30 minutes of exercise. Ask your nutritionist for exercise guidelines.
