| Some
people on dialysis don't like red meats. If they do not appeal to you, there are other
ways to enjoy protein and meet your needs. Here are some suggestions. Check the ones
that sound good to you.
Use meat in homemade dishes which "mask" the flavor of meat
with spices or sauces:
- Homemade lasagna.
- Homemade spaghetti with meat sauce.
- Homemade beef stroganoff.
- Homemade tacos, chile, or pizza.

Use more eggs in your menus: |
 |
- Custards.
- Eggnogs.
- Egg salad sandwiches.
|
- Hard boiled or deviled eggs.
- Omelets.
- In fruit juices or sherbet shakes.
- Stirred into casseroles or soups
|
| Other
ideas: |

|
- Serve meat cold in sandwiches or salads.
- Stay away from the kitchen when meat is cooking. Odors may decrease your
appetite.
- Use seasonings, spices, sauces, or gravies to improve the flavor of
meats.
- Blend powdered milk into casseroles or peanut butter.
- Chop, grate, or slice pieces of meat, fish, poultry, or cheese into
salads, soup, or noodles.
- Nutritional supplements, which are high in protein, help when you aren't
eating enough protein for your body. Ask your dietitian about them; some are all right for
dialysis patients.
