Why eat more protein on peritoneal dialysis?

Extra protein is needed to replace the additional protein you lose on peritoneal dialysis. Protein is important in fighting infection and healing wounds. In addition, if your blood protein is too low, extra fluid will leak into your tissues, causing swelling. A high- protein diet will help you feel better, and be more able to resist infections and swelling.
