Peritoneal Dialysis

Your diet on peritoneal dialysis is the same as that for people on hemodialysis, with one exception. You need to eat more protein foods (meat, fish, chicken, eggs, etc.) to replace what is lost on peritoneal dialysis. When you finish this section you will be able to modify your diet to meet your increased needs on peritoneal dialysis.

The protein that you need is found mainly in foods that come from animals. Some examples are:
  • Beef
  • Cheese
  • Chicken
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Milk
  • Pork
  • Turkey
  • Protein supplements
On the list above, check the high protein foods you eat.
