Fluid (or liquid) is one of the most important parts of your diet. Your fluid allowance depends on your urine output, your dry weight, and how long your dialysis treatments are. Eating lots of salt will make you thirsty, so controlling your salt intake is the best way to control your fluid. When you finish this section, you will be able to identify what to count as a fluid and how much to have each day.

Check the fluids you enjoy:

BEVERAGES
  • Beer
  • Cocoa
  • Coffee (regular or decaf)
  • Juice
  • Liquor (whiskey, vodka, etc.)
  • Milk
  • Milkshakes
  • Soda pop, and seltzer
  • Tea
  • Water
  • Wine
FOODS
  • Ice chips
  • Ice cream, and frozen yogurt
  • Jell-O
  • Popsicles
  • Sherbet, and sorbet
  • Soup

Any food that is liquid or will melt is counted as fluid. That's why things like ice, Jell-O, and soup are included in this list.
