Emergency Kit

This emergency kit is designed to help you prepare meals easily in the event that kitchen areas are destroyed.

Have the following items stored in a box that can be easily reached in case of a disaster:

  • Three day's menu.
  • Can opener.
  • 2 Plastic gallon jugs filled with distilled water.
  • Flashlight.
  • Sharp knife.
  • Candy (gumdrops, jellybeans).
  • Matches in a water proof container.
  • Aluminum foil for storing leftovers.
  • 3 plastic mixing containers with lids.
  • Measuring cups.
  • Eating utensils.
  • Battery-operated transistor radio.
  • A week's supply of your individual medications should be kept on hand in an easily accessible area. Include phosphate binders. (Diabetics include insulin.)

Note: Foods in freezers may stay fresh for as long as several days (as long as they still have ice crystal). Food in the refrigerator should be eaten the first day. Both should only be opened at meal time. In the event there is a long-term loss of power, this can extend the time food will keep. Open your refrigerator or freezer as little as possible.
