Maintaining Regular Meals

Sounds easy, doesn't it? This is probably the hardest thing to learn, especially now that your dialysis itself interferes with meal times. The amount of food you eat is important, but so are the times you eat your meals. Six small meals or snacks spread throughout the day are a reasonable way to keep your blood sugar within normal range. Here is an example (snack ideas are capitalized):

MORNING

coffee
1/2 grape fruit
fried eggs
toast with butter

SNACK

CORNFLAKES
MILK

NOON

lemonade
tuna and swiss cheese sandwich
carrot sticks

SNACK

GRAHAM CRACKERS
APPLE SLICES

EVENING

coffee
fried chicken
baked potato
green beans
