Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative: office work such as answering phones, photocopying, filing documents, processing donations, data entry, bulk mailings and other projects in nonclinical departments. Car Buddies: transportation of patients to or from dialysis on a temporary, urgent-need basis. Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles. They must be at least 18 and must have current, personal auto insurance. Community Dialysis Centers: any of a number of tasks to support staff, such as stocking supplies, answering phones, data entry, making new charts or creating dialysis prep kits; patient support activities such as reading to, socializing and playing card games with patients at the dialysis chair, confirming transportation and getting ice, blankets or food for patients, as appropriate. Events: assistance with registration, setup, take down or other tasks at fundraising events such as the Breakfast of Hope or community outreach events such as the Kidney Health Fest for African American Families. Health and Community Fairs: assistance with health fairs and community events such as packing van with supplies, driving van to location, staffing booth, answering questions and handing out health education brochures to the public, or providing setup and take down of display and materials. Internet Laptop Training: personalized one-on-one training, at the dialysis chair, to enhance or build upon patients’ computer skills. Topics may include orientation to the laptop, how to access the Internet, using e-mail, and more. Speakers Bureau: public speaking presentations for schools, colleges, places of worship, workplaces, senior centers and civic groups on topics such as kidney function, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, dialysis, organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Together for Life: community education program to increase public awareness about organ and tissue donation; highlights personal testimonials of people whose lives were profoundly changed by organ donation and transplant; presented most often to places of worship; appropriate for adults and teens. ext. 5355, or syrenka@nwkidney.org. |
