So you are starting dialysis....

Kidney failure has many causes. The number of people on dialysis in the U.S. has grown from 57,000 in 1980 to more than 200,000 today. At the Northwest Kidney Centers, we believe it is crucial that you learn as much as you can about your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Discovering you need dialysis may be overwhelming at first. You will experience many changes and adjustments as you begin your treatment. However, dialysis can allow you to maintain your health and, with some changes, to live much as you did before you became ill. Take comfort in knowing that many of our patients lead full and purposeful lives while undergoing treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease.

Many of these people have found comfort in becoming as knowledgeable as possible about their disease. Read on to learn more about how dialysis works to clean your blood, the different types of dialysis that are available, and the answers to frequently asked questions about living with dialysis.
