Home Dialysis

Since 1964, thousands of patients of the Northwest Kidney Centers (NKC) have dialyzed safely and successfully at home.  The NKC program is one of the largest in the country and has been a model for programs worldwide.

We offer both peritoneal dialysis (PD) and home hemodialysis, with five different choices:

CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) - PD with treatments done without a machine.

APD (automated peritoneal dialysis) - PD with a machine overnight to do some of the dialysis.

Daily home hemodialysis - shorter treatments (usually 2 ½-3 hours) done 5 to 6 times per week.

Nocturnal home hemodialysis - 6 to 8 hour treatments done overnight.

Conventional home hemodialysis - treatments three times a week.

One of these treatment choices may be right for you, depending on your lifestyle, medical issues, and preferences.  For detailed information on each of these choices,  follow this link to Home Dialysis Central.  This Web site has great information on each choice as well as interesting stories and articles about home dialysis.  You can also contact Mary Dooley at the Northwest Kidney Centers: (206) 292.2771, ext. 2057 or by e-mail at maryd@nwkidney.org.
