The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a new prospective payment system (PPS) for facilities that provide dialysis services to Medicare beneficiaries who have end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Medicare is sorting through hundreds of citizen comments on its proposed new system. The two-month period for collecting public input closed Dec. 16. We expect Medicare to issue the final rules next summer. They are scheduled to become effective Jan. 1, 2011. Stay tuned for details as we learn more.
