Stay Safe: Be Prepared for Emergencies

Inclement weather can be inconvenient at best and life-threatening at worst. And even in perfect weather, falls and other accidents can quickly become serious emergencies. That's why it's important for everyone — but especially people with chronic medical conditions like kidney disease — to be prepared.

In addition to the basic steps of stocking up on food, water, and first-aid supplies, a few extra precautions will help you stay safe and healthy in an emergency. Also, check your house for hazards and conditions that could put you at risk.

For dialysis patients

Stock up: People with chronic kidney disease can prepare for emergencies by keeping plenty of extra medication on hand, making back-up plans for transportation, and updating contact information. Read more.
