Home Dialysis

Since 1964, thousands of patients of Northwest Kidney Centers have dialyzed safely and successfully at home. Our program is one of the largest in the country and has been a model for programs worldwide.

We offer both peritoneal dialysis (PD) and home hemodialysis, with five different choices:

• CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis): PD with treatments done without a machine
• APD (automated peritoneal dialysis): PD with a machine overnight to do some of the dialysis
• Daily home hemodialysis: shorter treatments (usually two to three hours) done five or six times per week
• Nocturnal home hemodialysis: Six- to eight-hour treatments done overnight
• Conventional home hemodialysis: treatments three times a week

Northwest Kidney Centers keeps people in the Seattle area alive with dialysis care, educates the public about kidney health, and collaborates with UW Medicine in the Kidney Research Institute. We are one of very few community-based, nonprofit dialysis providers in the country. Founded in 1962, ours was the first out-of-hospital dialysis program in the world and it is still a model in the field.
