Top award recognizes our focus on educational outreach

Northwest Kidney Centers is the 2010 recipient of the Washington State Hospital Association's Community Health Leadership Award, given annually to health care organizations that best serve their community's broader health needs. In particular, the award recognizes Northwest Kidney Centers work to empower people with education about prevention and treatment.

"We are honored that WSHA has recognized our work to fight the epidemic of kidney disease," said Joyce F. Jackson, president and CEO. "Still, there's a lot more work for us to do to raise awareness among people at risk and care givers that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable."

Northwest Kidney Centers keeps people in the Seattle area alive with dialysis care, educates the public about kidney health, and collaborates with UW Medicine in the Kidney Research Institute. We are one of very few community-based, nonprofit dialysis providers in the country. Founded in 1962, ours was the first out-of-hospital dialysis program in the world and it is still a model in the field.
