Martha Alger Jasper grew up in Puyallup, Washington and knew by the time she was 12 years old that she wanted to become a nurse. She attended Seattle University and worked for many years as a registered nurse, acquiring many friendships and helping to support her family of seven children. In addition to her children and grandchildren, many people benefited from Martha’s generosity. Her desire to help often included a sweet nature and a funny side that could be very endearing. Martha gave to her family and many, many other people in countless ways during her 80 years of life. Martha was a longtime resident of Bellevue, Washington who received dialysis treatment at Northwest Kidney Centers (NKC) Lake Washington Kidney Center in Bellevue. Although Martha spent a great deal of time at Lake Washington initially because of her health, the dialysis unit became a place where she could connect with others like her and gain memories and friendships along the way. Martha shared with her family her great admiration and appreciation of the staff who worked there. Because of Martha’s wonderful experience at NKC and her long career as a nurse, her family created a special fund in her memory, the Martha Alger Jasper Memorial Fund. All gifts to NKC in Martha’s memory will be used to provide a scholarship to a Lake Washington Kidney Center staff member pursuing a nursing degree. Martha would definitely be pleased to know that her memorial fund will help patients like her.
